Pioneer Track Teams Compete at Harvard Open

CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Sacred Heart men's and women's indoor track & field teams wrapped up the fall semester competing at the Harvard Open at Gordon Indoor Track on Saturday afternoon.  The Pioneers will return to action after the holidays at the Carleton Crowell Inviational at Army on January 4th & 5th.

Junion Lindsay Aponte (West Islip, NY) earned a victory in the shot put, besting the the field with a throw of 44'10.25" (13.67m).  The Pioneers got a third place finish in the event from freshman Adaora Nwodili (Coram, NY) who recorded a throw of 41'3.00" (13.45m).

Sophomore sprinter Ashia Wright (Cheshire, CT) earned a couple of top-10 finishes in the 55 meters and 200 meters.  Wright was fifth in the 55 dash, clocking in at 7.10 seconds.  She followed that up with a seventh place finish with a time 25.46.

The Pioneers dominated the 3,000 meters with four runners in the top-eight finishers.  Senior Alyssa Selmquist (Northford, CT) was second in the field with a time of 9:57.53.  Junior Brianna Castrogivanni (Commack, NY) was fourth in a time of 10:15.10.  Sophomore Emma Bolduc (Peterborough, NH) and senior Michelle Navarro (Piscataway, NJ) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.  Bolduc ran in 10:28.86 and Navarro checked in at 10:29.86.

In the pole vault, freshman Sara Isaacson (Aberdeen, NJ), last week's NEC Rookie of the Week, finished in sixth place, clearing a height of 10'4.00".  Sophomore Dylan Baker (Petersham, MA) was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 17'4.25". 

For the men, r-junior Marc Troiani (Valhalla, NY) earned a pair of top-10's in the shot put and weight throw.  Troiani finished fourth in the shot with a toss of 49'8.50" (15.15m) and was eighth in the weight throw with a heave of 55'1.00" (16.79m).

In the 400 meters, sophomore Warner Cooley III (Central Islip, NY) finished seventh clocking in at 50.95 seconds.  Senior Christopher Connelly (Medford, NY) finished fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8.39.48.
