Swimming and Diving Sits Third After Six Events at Blue Devil Invite

Day 1 Results

NEW BRITAIN, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Swimming and Diving team completed the first day of the Blue Devil Invite tonight. The team currently sits third with 273.5 points through event six. SHU continues the invite tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with prelims while finals begin at 6 p.m.

Sophomore Nicole Tingley and junior Margaret Flaherty highlighted the strokes for the Pioneers as Tingley placed second in the 200 IM with a time 2:09.33 which is a season best as she crushed her time by four seconds as her previous time was 2:13.92.

Flaherty placed sixth in the 500 yard free-style with a finals time of 5:16.56 which destroyed her season best by six seconds as her previous best was 5:22.96.

First-year Kelly Bartnett placed fifth in the 50 yard backstroke with a finals time of 28.40 in the A final.

In the relays, the Pioneers had impressive finishes as well as both A relays placed third as the 400 yard medley relay of Kelly Bartnett, Julia Pusateri, Nicole Tingley and Lauren Somers touched the wall with a time of 4:00.53 which is a season best. The 200 year freestyle relay of Lauren Somers, Emily Peter, Kelly Bartnett, and Nicole Tingley also reached a season best time of 1:39.69 to push the Pioneers to a third place finish.
