Day 3 Results

Another school record and four additional career-best swims highlighted the Friday night finals session of the 2018 Northeast Conference Championship, at Nassau County Aquatic Center, for the Sacred Heart University swimming and diving team.

The Pioneers remain in sixth-place in the team standings, with 181 points, 10.5 behind LIU Brooklyn, in fifth-place. Bryant maintains the overall team lead, with 517 points, followed by Wagner, 456, and Saint Francis U, 395.5.  The Pioneers are leading the seventh-place squad, St. Francis Brooklyn, by 28 points.

400 IM

  • Fiona Maxwell placed 16th with a swim of 4:40.58
  • Lauren Spencer lowered her time by nearly four seconds, posting her personal-best time with a swim of 4:43.34 and placed 19th
  • Sarah Hensal was also faster, touching at 4:50.42, to place 22nd

100 Butterfly

  • Emily Peter broke the school record on her way to a ninth-place finish, touching at 57.48 to eclipse the time (57.89) of Katie Marshall from 2011
  • Nikole Rudis was also under the former record, touching 10th in the event, and lowering her personal-best a second time on the day
  • Maxwell placed 15th with a swim of 1:00.18

200 Freestyle

  • Lauren Somers placed sixth going faster than her qualifying time and touching at 1:52.28
  • Margaret Flaherty notched another personal-best swim, placing 10th with a 1:54.59 effort
  • Kim Hylan was 11th in the event, swimming 1:55.65
  • Shanna Haddow placed 15th with a collegiate-best time of 1:59.42, 1.42 seconds faster than her morning swim
  • Victoria Catizone touched at 2:02.94, lowering her career-best swim for the second time on the day

100 Breaststroke

  • Julia Pusateri placed 12th with a lifetime-best swim of 1:06.03, slicing more than a second off her morning swim – which was a career-best by .67 seconds
  • Jessica Poole placed 16th in the event, touching at 1:06.59

100 Backstroke

  • Anna Brown gave SHU a 14th place finish, swimming a time of 59.63, .22 faster than her morning swim
  • Rudis touched at 1:02.40 equaling exactly her personal-best time, swum this morning

400 Medley Relay

  • The Pioneers A relay placed seventh with a swim of 3:59.59
  • Anna Brown led off with a backstroke split of 1:00.78 and was followed by Pusateri (1:06.45), Peter (59.80) and Somers (52.56)

Prelim Results

The Sacred Heart University swimming and diving team posted nine lifetime best swims in the preliminary heats on the third day of the 2018 Northeast Conference Championship, at Nassau County Aquatic Center. The Championship session begins at 6 p.m. this evening, where SHU will have 15 individual swims, and the A relay in the 400-medley relay.

Nikole Rudis posted two career-best swims, Lauren Somers will swim in an A Final and Fiona Maxwell earned two B Final berths.

400 IM

  • Fiona Maxwell opened her day with a career-best swim of 4:38.22, good for a spot in the B Final
  • Lauren Spencer qualified 21st with a collegiate-best effort of 4:47.13 and is joined in the C Final by Sarah Hensal, 4:52.59
  • Nicole Sauve (4:54.39) and Jackie Pianese (4:59.44) both posted career-best swims in the preliminary heats

100 Butterfly

  • Emily Peter was the Pioneers top qualifier, earning the top-spot in the B Final with a collegiate-best swim of 58.08
  • Nikole Rudis swam a career-best time of 58.39 to qualify 10th and will swim in the B Final
  • Maxwell earned her second B Final berth of the day, touching at 59.12, good for 13th place
  • Meredith Bertoni recorded a career-best swim of 1:01.70, qualifying 28th and is the second alternate for the evening sessions

200 Freestyle

  • Lauren Somers posted the Pioneers top swim, 1:52.83, and is the seventh-seed in tonight's final
  • SHU has three entrants in the B Final, led by Margaret Flaherty, who posted a career-best time of 1:55.10
  • Kim Hylan, 1:57.31 and Shanna Haddow, 2:00.77, will also swim in the B Final
  • Victoria Catizone swam a personal-best time of 2:03.73 and will swim in Friday night's C Final

100 Breaststroke

  • Jessica Poole notched a season-best time of 1:06.50 and is the 14th qualifier
  • Julia Pusateri posted a career-best swim of 1:07.13 and will swim in the B Final
  • Renee Russo touched at 1:10.95, the 28th best-time of the morning, while Dee Henry swam a 1:16.43 to round out the Pioneers effort

100 Backstroke

  • Anna Brown posted the team's top time, 59.85, and will swim in the B Final Friday evening
  • Rudis swam a career-best 1:01.18, good for 24th and will swim Friday night in the C Final
  • Kelly Chmielewski touched 25th with a collegiate-best effort of 1:02.03
  • Emily Shenk touched at 1:02.40 and Alana Donabie at 1:03.16
