BROOKLYN, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University Softball team fell to Saint Francis U (Pa.) by a score of 7-0 this afternoon at the NEC Championship Quarterfinals. The team will now face Mount Saint Mary's tomorrow afternoon as the Pioneers look to keep their playoff hopes alive with a first-pitch set for 2:30 p.m.
Senior Hailey Desrosiers tallied one hit in the game which set her as the leading hit leader in a single season passing Eilizabeth Luckie who had 71 in a season. Desrosiers now has a total of 72 on the year.
The game would be a pitchers dual for four innings as neither team would be able to get on the scoreboard as senior Emily Orosco would not allow a single hit until the fifth inning. After SFU would score four runs in the fifth, the Red Flash continued its attack in the sixth scoring three more runs give SFU a 7-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Pioneers would have an opportunity to get on the scoreboard as first-year Amy Petrovich would rip a double to left center to put a runner on with two outs but would be unable to capitalize to keep the final score 7-0.
Top of the 5th inning- Saint Francis U would tally four runs in the inning to give the Red Flash a 4-0 lead as a pair of sacrifice flies and a two-run homer would account for the four runs.
Top of the 6th inning- A two run double by SFU would give the Red Flash a 6-0 lead.
Top of the 6th inning- An RBI single to left field by SFU would put Saint Francis U ahead 7-0 heading into the bottom of the inning.
- Both sides would be even in hits as each team tallied four hits respectivley,
- At the plate the Pioneers would be led by first-year Amy Petrovich who went 1-3 with a double.
- In the circle senior Emily Orosco would tally the loss going 4.2 innings allowing two earned runs, four runs total on two hits and striking out three. Her overall record drops to 11-6 on the season.
