Softball Drops Double-Header to Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University Softball team dropped a pair of games this afternoon against Iona as SHU fell in the first game by a final score of 2-0 while dropping the second game to the Gaels by a score of 7-0. SHU returns to action on Saturday Mar. 30 when the Pioneers kick off Northeast Conference play against Fairleigh Dickinson. First-pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.

 

Game One

SHU 0, IONA 2

 

The Scoring

  • Bottom of the 5th inning- A double by Jamine Temple would score in two to give Iona a 2-0 lead.

 

The Numbers 

  • The Pioneers would be only able to salvage three hits in the game coming off the bats of junior Katelyn Christian, sophomore Caroline Kruger and sophomore Kira Ferraiolo.
  • Christian and Ferraiolo each tallied a double for the Pioneers.
  • In the circle senior Kristen McCann tallied the loss while pitching six innings giving up just one earned run on only four hits and striking out seven batters.

 

Game Two

 

SHU 0, IONA 7

 

The Scoring

  • Bottom of the 2nd inning- An RBI single by Hannah Collins would put Iona ahead 1-0.
  • Bottom of the 3rd inning- A pair of RBI singles by Ciarra Diguilio and Kara Zazzaro would put Iona ahead 3-0.
  • Bottom of the 5th inning- Three walks with the bases loaded and a single would put the Gaels ahead 7-0 as the Pioneers would have no response throughout the game.

 

The Numbers

  • The Pioneers would be outhit by the Gaels nine to five in the game.
  • Senior Hailey Desrosiers led the way for the Pioneers going 2-3 at the plate with a pair of singles.
  • In the circle Collen Walsh would tally the loss going four and one third innings six earned runs on eight hits and striking out three batters.
