LOUISVILLE, K.Y.— Sacred Heart University softball junior Emily Orosco was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Northeast Region - Third Team on Thursday.
The 2018 NEC Co-Pitcher of the Year and Most Improved Player posted a breakout season going 14-5 with six shutouts to go along with a league-leading 1.34 earned run average. The All-NEC First Team honoree also paced the NEC with 206 strikeouts on the season. Orosco recorded double-digit strikeouts in eight outings her junior season.
She ended the year ranked 25th in the NCAA in earned run average and 11th in strikeouts per seven innings with 9.7 strikeouts. Her 206 strikeouts also ranked top 50 in the country.
Orosco is one of 389 student-athletes from 164 Division I programs to earn All-Region accolades by NFCA member coaches. She is the second straight SHU pitcher to earn All-Region honors after Jamie Carlson '17 garnered Northeast Region Third Team honors a season ago.
The Pioneers finished the 2018 season 31-25, setting a new program record for wins in a season at the Division I level.
