Pioneers Drop Weekend Finale To Morehead State, 5-3

ROCK HILL, S.C.— The Sacred Heart University softball team was unable to rally from a five-run deficit, falling to Morehead State 5-3 on Sunday afternoon.

The Pioneers (5-5) battled back from a five-run first inning by the Eagles (14-4) as senior Lauren Delgadillo hit a three-run home run in the third inning but were held to two hits the rest of the game by Morehead State's Chelsea McManaway.

The Scoring…

Top of the 1st inning… The Eagles picked up the first run of the game as Ellen Barrett recorded the RBI walk with the bases loaded.

Top of the 1st inning… Robyn Leighton the next batter lifted the offering from Kristen McCann over the fence in left centerfield for the grand slam.

Bottom of the 3rd inning… Stephanie Mangiameli picked up the one-out single for SHU's first hit of the afternoon. Kylee Harvey drew the walk to put runners in scoring position. Delgadillo followed that up with a three-run shot over the left field fence.

The numbers…

  • McCann recorded seven strikeouts in her third complete game on the weekend. Giving up three earned runs in the loss.
  • Mangiameli picked up the two-hit game to lead SHU at the dish.


  • Delgadillo finished the weekend with a hit in all five games at the Winthrop Invitational. She led SHU with four runs batted in and two home runs and two doubles.
