Pioneers Lose 2-1 To Fairfield In A 7 Inning Thriller

Fairfield, CT- The Sacred Heart softball team took on crosstown rival Fairfield in a 3:30 start game. The Pioneers fell to the Stags 2-1, in a seven inning thriller. Although the Pioneers out hit Fairfield 9-3. The Pioneers start conference play this Sunday as they take on Iona on the road.

  • The Stags struck first, picking up a run in the top of the third after a two out rally, starting with a hit by pitch batter. Alisha Marshall picked up the RBI for Fairfield taking an early 1-0 lead
  • Jamie Carlson was dealing for SHU, as she picked up five strikeouts thru the first four innings. Carlson would go on to end the game with a total of eight strikeouts and take the loss on the mound
  • The Stags would pick up another run in the top of the fifth to take a 2-0 lead
  • The Pioneers would gain momentum when they needed it picking a run in the bottom of the seventh but the lone run wouldn't hold as they fell 2-1
  • SHU was led by Delgadillo, and Katelyn Christian who posted two hits a piece
  • The Pioneers out hit the Stags, 9-3 but couldn't string the hits together
