SHU Softball Announces 2017 Schedule

FULL SCHEDULE

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (December 6, 2016)—Sacred Heart Softball Co-Head Coaches Elizabeth Luckie and Pam London released the 2017 schedule Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers kick off the campaign February 24 at the Buffalo Wild Wings Classic in Greenville, S.C.

 

The Tournaments:

  • SHU will take part in four tournaments during the first month of competition beginning with the Buffalo Wild Wings Classic February 24-25 in Greenville, S.C. There the Pioneer will face Furman, Toledo, Delaware State and Howard
  • Next the Pioneers will head west for Cal Poly's Tournament March 3-5. In San Luis Obispo, Calif., Sacred Heart will take on St. Mary's and Cal Poly twice, and Middle Tennessee once
  • Before heading south to Santa Barbara, SHU will make a stop at Cal St. Northridge March 7 for a doubleheader. Then, they will continue down to UC Santa Barbara for the Gaucho Classic March 10-12
  • Heading back to the east coast, Sacred Heart will compete in the a tournament at Towson March 17-19
 

The Non-Conference Slate:

  • The Pioneers finally come home to Pioneer Park on March 23 to open a four-date homestand with a doubleheader against Stony Brook
  • Three days later, SHU will host Maine and Quinnipiac on March 26, followed by a doubleheader with Manhattan on March 29, and a single game against Fairfield on March 30
  • After the Fairfield game, the Pioneers will play three more single games throughout the season, heading to Quinnipiac for one on April 4 before hosting Iona on the fifth. Later in the month, they will head across town to take on the Stags again on April 20
  • SHU will play its final three non-conference dates on the road with doubleheaders at Yale and Siena on April 19 and 27 respectively, and rounding out the season at Hartford for two on May 2
 

Northeast Conference Play:

  • Sacred Heart opens conference play and the month of April with a doubleheader at Fairleigh Dickinson on April 2
  • When they host Central Connecticut on April 9, the Pioneers open a three-date NEC Run with the following week bringing a trip to Bryant on Good Friday and a home doubleheader at home against Wagner the next day
  • After a couple midweek non-conference contests, SHU will host the reigning NEC Champion LIU Brooklyn on April 22 and Mount St. Mary's the next day
  • SHU will make its final argument for a spot in the NEC Tournament April 29-30 when they make the long road trip out to Saint Francis U and Robert Morris
