Pioneer Softball Drops Both Games in Season Finale

Moon Township, Penn. (May 5, 2013)—The Sacred Heart Softball team dropped both games of the 2013 season finale doubleheader against Robert Morris Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers managed just two runs on the day, falling 9-1 in both games. SHU finishes its 2013 campaign 25-30 and 6-15 in conference play.

The Pioneers got just one run off RMU's Nicole Sleith as they fell 9-1 in six innings to the No. 2 team in the conference. SHU's one run came in the top of the fourth when Justine Sibthorp (Santa Clarita, Calif.), who was 2-for-3 in the game, sent a solo-shot over the centerfield wall. Sophomore Jenn Robillard (Plainville, Mass.) and junior Jade Bowins (Frederick, Md.) accounted for Sacred Heart's other two runs.

Kacie Wentworth (Canton, N.Y.) got the loss after pitching just 1.1 innings giving up four runs on five hits, one a three-run home run. All four runs came in the first inning. Taylor Lane (Lisbon, Conn.) took over in the second. In 3.2 innings, the junior gave up five runs on six hits, and struck out three batters.

Robillard scored the Pioneers' only run of the second game in the first inning. The leftfielder smacked a lead-off single before being moved to second by Bowins' fielder's choice and to third on Dreher's fly out to right field, and was sent home when the rightfielder's throw went off course. SHU picked up five hits in the game, as they again fell 9-1 in five innings.

Freshman Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.) pitched a complete game, tossing four innings. She gave up nine runs, six of which were unearned, on five hits, including a homerun by Chelsea Siar.
