SOMERSET, N.J.- Sacred Heart University women's soccer first-years Elyssa Kipperman and Michelle Clarkin swept the Northeast Conference Weekly Awards slate as Kipperman was named NEC Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week while Clarkin was tabbed NEC Player of the Week.
Kipperman recorded the first win of her collegiate career in SHU's 3-1 win over Temple on Sunday. The rookie goalie recorded nine saves against the Owls, and stopped six three days earlier in a scoreless draw with Holy Cross. Over the two games, the rookie goalkeeper recorded a 0.45 GAA and .938 save percentage. Kipperman has posted a 1.23 GAA and .848 save percentage on the season.
Meanwhile Clarkin scored both goals for the Pioneers in their first win of the season against Temple on Sunday. The freshman forward's first goal of the game and first of her collegiate career came midway through the second half as a response to a goal by Temple to take back the lead, 2-1. Clarkin sealed the win for Sacred Heart in the 80:00 minute when she found the back of the net again. The two goals for the Clifton Park, N.Y. native leads the Pioneer offensive attack.
The Pioneers will return to action tomorrow when SHU stays in-state to face Hartford. Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
