Women's soccer downed by St. John's 3-0

QUEENS, New York- The Sacred Heart women's soccer team (0-3-0 overall, 0-0 NEC) fell to St. John's (2-2-0 overall, 0-0 BIG EAST) tonight 3-0. The team returns to action on August 31 when they travel to Rhode Island to face Brown. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. 

The Pioneers would be outshot by the Red Storm in the first half as SHU would be only able to salvage two shots the first one occurring at the 03:29 minute mark courtesy of Lindsay Corallo then the second coming late in the half as Jill Klem would take a shot on goal in the 41stminute but was saved by the goalie. Meanwhile St. John's would take a total of 14 shots in the first half as one would find the back of the net by Christina Bellero at the 19:27 minute to give the Red Storm a 1-0 lead after the first half. 

St. John's would continue firing shots at the Pioneer defense as they would take four straight shots between the 48thand 51stminutes while senior goalie Nicole Sambuco would save one of those shots while the rest were either blocked or wide. Linsday Savko would take the first shot for SHU in the second half at the 55:39 minute mark but St. John's was able to block the shot. Then at the 59:40 minute, the Red Storm would find the net to take a 2-0 lead courtesy of Zsani Kajan. St. John's would tack on another goal at the 71:30 minute mark to take a 3-0 lead off the foot of Kayla Mesaros. The Pioneers would take a pair of shots after the St. John's goal one shot taken at 72:20 by Morgan Paquin that went wide followed by a shot by Melanie DaSilva at the 77:33 mark but both shots went wide. 

Danielle Karpiej would make one final attempt to score for the Pioneers but it would be blocked at the 86:10 minute mark concluding the game as SHU would fall to St. John's by a final score of 3-0. The team returns to action on August 31 when they travel to Rhode Island to face Brown. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
