Women’s Soccer Picked Fifth In NEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

SOMERSET, N.J.— The Sacred Heart women's soccer team was picked to finish fifth in the Northeast Conference women's soccer preseason poll as announced by the conference on Monday.

The Pioneers finished the 2017 season with 7-11 overall record while placing fifth in the NEC standings. The team returns a strong core center that includes All-NEC second team selection senior Melanie DaSilva as well as Alex Mesropyan and Kim McNally. SHU also welcomes a 13-member freshman class to Park Avenue.

Sacred Heart was picked ahead of Robert Morris, LIU Brooklyn, Wagner and Mount St. Mary's. The defending NEC Champions, Saint Francis U, earned the top spot in the poll with four first place votes. Fairleigh Dickinson and Central Connecticut followed in second and third with the Knights picking up three first place votes and the Blue Devils earning one.

SHU opens the 2018 season with their home opener on Friday, August 17 vs. Iona for a 11:00 a.m. start.
