Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener to Vermont

Burlington, VT – The Sacred Heart women's soccer team opened their 2013 campaign with a 2-1 loss to the University of Vermont on Friday evening. Sophomore Marissa Christy (Massapequa, NY) scored the lone goal for SHU as they begin their season 0-1.

Christy headed in a perfectly placed cross by junior Monica Re (Doylestown, PA) in the 9th minute of the game to give SHU the early 1-0 lead.

Vermont equaled the score in the 23rd minute, when Alexandra Dezenzo knocked one past SHU goalie Sydney Judkins (South Park, PA) on an assist from C.C Greer.

UVM would score the game winner in the 49th minute on a goal from Ellie Mills on an assist from Nikki McFarlane. Mills one timed a corner kick from McFarlane to put the Catamounts ahead for good.


SHU plays University of New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon in game two of the TD Bank Classic at the University of Vermont.
