FAIRFIELD, Conn. (April 26, 2010) - Senior Chelsea Wagner (Aurora, CO) of the women's lacrosse team was named the Enterprise Rent-A-Car / Sacred Heart Student-Athlete of the Week for the the week of April 19th through 25th.
Wagner earns this week's honor after leading the Pioneers to their third-straight Northeast Conference Championship over the weekend while earning tournament MVP honors. Wagner guided the Pioneers into the NEC title game posting 14 saves while giving up just five goals in a 14-5 win over Mount St. Mary's on Friday. She made five of her eight saves in the second half to help fuel a 7-1 rally to deliver the championship with a 12-7 win over Quinnipiac on Sunday.
The senior goalkeeper leads the nation with a .592 save percentage this season. She sports a stingy 7.70 goals against average with 167 saves and a 13-3 record on the year. In 11 games against NEC competition this season, Wagner allowed just 5.74 goals per game with a .630 save percentage (104 saves) in leading SHU to a perfect 11-0 record.
Wagner and the Pioneers move on to the NCAA Play-In round for the third-straight season and will travel to the champion of the Patriot League on May 7th for a spot in the tournament.
