The Sacred Heart University women's hockey team was well represented in the NEWHA postseason awards. Highlighting the selections is Sarah Erban who is the NEWHA Goalie of the Year. She also earned a spot on the All-NEWHA First Team along with Taylor Moreland.
Pioneer head coach Thomas O'Malley was named All New England Women's Hockey Alliance Coach of the Year.
Jayne Lewis was named to the Second Team. Marissa Letizio also landed a spot on the All-Rookie Team, with Brittany Smith representing the Pioneers on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Erban had six shutouts over the course of the regular season, recording 660 saves and a .803 win percentage enroute to All-NEWHA honors.
Moreland logged her third-straight season with at least 20 points in her senior campaign, totaling a career best 62 points on 28 goals and 32 assists in the regular season to rank top of the NEWHA for points. In 113 career games, Moreland is the all-time leader in points in program history with 136 points.
Lewis earned a Second-Team spot, scoring 19 goals and 39 assists for 67 points this season in her sophomore year.
During her standout rookie season, Letizio has 7 goals and 3 assists for 10 points to her credit on her way to All-Rookie Team honors.
Senior forward Brittany Smith recorded a career season best of 13 goals and 11 assists in 33 games for the Pioneers. "Brittany is an incredible player, said Head Coach O'Malley. "She brings it every single practice and game and always puts the team first."
SHU, who won the NEWHA first-round game on Wednesday against Post will face Holy Cross in the semifinal on Saturday Feb. 24 at 1 pm hosted by number one seed Saint Anselm at Sullivan Arena.
