Women's Hockey Falls 8-0 to RIT in Season Opener

(Bridgeport, CT) – The Sacred Heart Women's Hockey team lost its season opener 8-0 against RIT on  Friday night at the Wonderland of Ice.

RIT scored its goals in pairs.  Kim Schlattman scored her first of two goal on the night to open the scoring at 14:09 of the first period.  Tenicia Hiller followed the that 36 seconds later with a goal assisted by Carly Payerl and Schlattman to make it 2-0.

Schlattman netted her second at 3:47 from Kourtney Kunichika, followed 23 seconds later by an unassisted goal by Ellesha Fortuna. 

In the third period, Payerl and Ariane Yokoyama scored 14 seconds apart, beginning with Payerl's second goal of the night at 7:03 (unassisted), then Yokoyama's tally assisted by Celeste Brown at 7:17.  Tenicia Hiller found the back of the net at 9:43, with Schlattman earning her third point of the night on the assist.  Brown then closed the scoring at 14:49 on a helper by Yokoyama at 14:59.

Alexius Schutt (Elk River, MN) made 45 saves, and Amanda Fontaine (Northfield, MA) stopped ten of eleven shots in relief in her collegiate debut.

The Pioneers host the Tigers Saturday afternoon, Oct. 7 at 2:00 pm to close out a two-game weekend series.
