Field Hockey falls to Fairfield, 4-2, in MAAC Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team opened MAAC play with a loss, as the Pioneers fell to Fairfield, 4-2, Friday afternoon at Johnson Field. Kelsy Hopkins and Allie Brouhard each tallied a goal for the Pios in the loss.

The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, October 7, when SHU takes on Brown at 1 p.m. at Johnson Field.

The Scoring

  • (22:51): Corrine Persichetti scored on a penalty stroke to give Fairfield a 1-0 lead

  • (23:38): Meghann Maguire got into the circle and scored to put Fairfield up 2-0

  • (27:41): Danielle Profita fed a pass to Emma Matlach f, who snuck it past the keeper to give the Stags a 3-0 lead

  • (47:43): Kelsy Hopkins scooped up a rebound and shot it past the keeper to cut the deficit to 3-1

  • (63:47): Allie Brouhard scored on a penalty stroke to cut Fairfield's lead to 3-2

  • (69:25): Matlach fed a pass to Malen Iglesias who put it in goal to seal the 4-2 final
