McAninley's Game-Winning Goal Pushes Field Hockey Past Dartmouth, 3-2

HANOVER, N.H. - The Sacred Heart University field hockey team earned its second win in a row, as the Pioneers defeated the Dartmouth Big Green 3-2, at Thompson Arena on Friday afternoon. Marlena Koellner scored a goal and Colleen McAninley scored twice, with her second goal being the game-winner.

The Pioneers return home to Johnson Field as they look to stretch their winning streak to three games against UMass Lowell on Sunday, September 16 at 2 p.m.

The Scoring:

  • (17:09) Colleen McAninley intercepted a Dartmouth pass, and put it in the back of the net to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead.

  • (18:40) A little over a minute later, Dartmouth came storming back as Carmen Braceras rung a shot off the post and into the net to tie the game at 1-1.

  • (37:25) Two minutes into the second half, Marlena Koellner redirected a corner from Allie Brouhard and McAninley to help SHU retake a 2-1 lead.

  • (43:36) Dartmouth again responded and after some nifty moves, Katie Spanos tapped in the game tying goal, knotting things up at 2-2.

  • (54:03) Kayla Bedel-Franklin dished a pass to McAninley, who buried what would end up being the game winning goal in a 3-2 Sacred Heart win.


  • Colleen McAninley recorded her second and third goals of the season, as well as an assist and five shots on goal.  

  • Hailey Power faced 16 shots in the game, and made a total of seven saves.

  • Dartmouth outshot Sacred Heart 16-9, and had six corners to the Pioneers two.  

  • In the second half, Sacred Heart recorded seven shots on goal to Dartmouth's four.
