(Hanover, NH) – The Sacred Heart University Field Hockey team last to Dartmouth Friday afternoon 5-0 in the first game of the Big Green Classic at Dartmouth College.
Dartmouth opened the scoring on a corner goal by Kelly Hood at 11:18, with Maya Herm and Lisa Masini picking up the assists. Hood then scored her second goal of the game at 16:34, drilling a shot from the top of the circle unassisted to make it 2-0 Big Green.
Herm began the second-half scoring at 52:34, taking a pass from Rebecca Hu and knocking a shot from the top of the circle to the top left corner of the cage. She added another a little more than five minutes later at 57:54, tipping in a long pass from Hood to the right side. Samantha McPherson joined the scoring at 62:43 with a low shot after taking a pass in the circle from Lisa Masini.
Kim Stow (Norwalk, CT) made a season-high 11 saves for the Pioneers, who were outshot by the Big Green 29-12. Nikki Kimborowicz (Biddeford, ME) led the Pioneers with five shots, including four on goal, but Dartmouth goalie Meagan Vakiener stoped all six Pioneer shots that reached her for the shutout.
The Pioneers play Longwood Saturday at 2:00 p.m., also in Hanover as part of the Big Green Classic.
