Women's Bowling Falls to Nebraska in NCAA Tournament

CLEVELAND, OH. - The Sacred Heart University bowling team fell to Nebraska 2-0 in the NCAA eight-team winner's bracket at Rollhouse Wickliffe Thursday afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-1 in the tournament, as SHU will take on the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday, April 12 at 9 a.m. in an elimination game.

The Pioneers dropped the traditional team portion, 1015-999 to fall behind 1-0.  SHU had two bowlers finish with over 200 pins in the event, as Rachel Bamford led the Pioneers with a 236. Tori Boughton followed with a 211, while Colby Jones just missed the mark by collecting 199.

The Pioneers held a 30-pin lead over the Cornhuskers entering the final frame. However, SHU opened twice, while Nebraska's final two bowlers struck out to win 1015-999.

The Pioneers needed to win the quint baker to stay alive in the match, however the Cornhuskers were able to put them away. Nebraska took all five games, defeating the Pioneers 1024-858.

Women's bowling will be back in action on Friday, April 12, when the Pioneers take on the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at 9 a.m. in an elimination game.
