Kregling Named NEC Coach Of The Year, Nardiello, Newton And Boughton Earn ALL-NEC Honors

Fairfield, Conn - Sacred Heart's Becky Kregling picked up her third consecutive NEC Coach of the Year honor after her Pioneers posted their third straight first-place regular season finish.

Kregling, the lone coach that Sacred Heart has known during its NCAA history, has built a perennial NEC title contender. The Pioneers, who own the No. 12 spot in the latest NTCA Top 25, won 13 of 18 conference matches to earn at least a share of the regular season crown for the third year in a row.

Amanda Nardiello and Dominique Newton were named to the ALL-NEC First Team. Tori Boughton earned ALL-NEC Second Team honors.

Having secured the No. 1 seed, SHU will begin championship bracket play against No. 4 seed SFBK Terriers on Saturday at 8:40 am ET with start of mega match play. In this format, two opposing teams square off in a quint baker match followed by a traditional team match. If the same team wins both contests, the mega match is over. If not, the two sides will break the tie by battling in a Best-Of-7 baker match.

Of the four remaining NEC Tournament teams, only two have previously won the title. Sacred Heart is a three-time champion while Saint Francis U lifted the trophy in 2014.
