    A strong opening quarter from the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team wasn’t enough as the Pioneers dropped a non-conference game at home to Holy Cross, 65-52, on Saturday afternoon. The loss is the first for SHU at home this season and moves the Pioneers to 3-6 overall while Holy Cross finishes their four-game road swing with a win to improve to 5-3 in 2019-20.

Incredibly, this is just the second meeting between the two teams and the first at the Div. I level as the first and only prior meeting came back in the 1980-81 season. Tip-off from Fairfield is scheduled for 2 PM.

    Easy looks on offense came in small doses for the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team on Wednesday night as the Pioneers shot just 25.6 percent in a 71-44 loss at Saint Joseph’s. A fourth straight road loss moves SHU to 3-5 on the season while SJU vaults back up to .500 with a 4-4 record.

SHU’s loss drops the Pioneers to 3-4 in 2019-20 while the Cornhuskers improve to 7-1 on the season.

The Pioneers win their first game away from home this season, improving to 3-3 overall while the Titans remain winless at 0-7.

The Pioneers drop to 2-3 on the season and remain winless playing away from home while Stony Brook continues a stellar start at 5-1 overall.

    Resuming a classic matchup that dates back to the 1970s, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team defeated their former league foe Bridgeport, 77-63, from the Pitt Center on Wednesday morning. The Pioneers get back in the win column, improving to 2-2 on the season while remaining unbeaten at home while the Purple Knights drop to 0-4.

    A crosstown showdown is next on-tap for the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team as the Pioneers are set for a Wednesday non-conference clash with the University of Bridgeport at 11 AM from the Pitt Center. This will be the 53rd meeting between the Pioneers and Purple Knights, a showdown that originated in the 1974-75 season with SHU owning an all-time record of 30-22 in games against Bridgeport. SHU has faced Bridgeport (52 times) more than any other opponent in program history.

    Trailing by 27 points entering the fourth quarter, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team mounted a comeback bid that fell short as the Pioneers ultimately fell to the Saints, 68-57, from the Alumni Recreation Center on Saturday night. The loss brings SHU to 1-2 on the season while Siena’s first win moves them to 1-3 in 2019.

    Following a 71-44 domination of Hofstra at home on Sunday, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team heads back on the road for a Saturday night showdown at Siena with tip-off set for 7:00 PM. These two sides are meeting for the fourth straight season, with SHU winning two of those three matchups including a 72-50 win in the Pioneers’ home opener in 2018-19. SHU is going for their second straight win following an impressive outing against the Pride wherein the Pioneers shot over 50 percent from the floor in the second half, outscoring Hofstra 42-20 in the final 20 minutes of play.

The Pioneers up their win streak in home openers to three straight while improving to 1-1 overall while Hofstra falls to 1-1 on the season.

    The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team hosts Hofstra on Sunday for the Pioneers’ 2019-20 home opener with tip-off set for 1:00 PM from the Pitt Center. A season removed from going 10-5 at home, the Pioneers are coming off a 95-69 loss at Seton Hall on Wednesday in what was the first game of the 2019-20 season for both teams. Six of the nine Pioneers to see the floor in that game were playing in their first career game for SHU but none shined more than Western Carolina transfer Nikki Johnson who pumped in a career-high 25 points in her first game wearing the red and white.

    A trip to Seton Hall awaits the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team as the Pioneers are set to open their 21st campaign at the Div. I level in 2019-20. The Pioneers are coming off a 19-win 2018-19 season but will have some new faces across the lineup with three starters gone from last season due to graduation. This first matchup is a considerable one for SHU as Seton Hall advanced to the WNIT in 2018-19 and was just picked third in the BIG EAST Preseason Poll. Tip-off from Walsh Gymnasium is set for 7:00 PM on Wednesday.
