SOMERSET, N.J. – Graduate student Katherine Haines picked up her second Northeast Conference Player of the Week Award this season for her performances at Wagner and against Bryant as announced by conference this afternoon.
Haines continued to have it her way in the post as Sacred Heart stayed unbeaten in Northeast Conference play. Powering the Pioneers to back-to-back league wins, the 6-foot-2 forward put up a pair of eye-popping double-doubles. She averaged 21.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per victory. Haines shot 47 percent from the field and was money at the charity stripe where she pieced together a 13-of-14 clip.
The strong post player came through in the clutch while accounting for more than 40 percent of the Pioneers' scoring in Monday's 49-48 triumph over Bryant. Haines, who finished with 20 points and 15 boards in 33 minutes, produced SHU's final four points against the Bulldogs. Her go-ahead free throws with 00:09 remaining proved to be the difference in the one-point win.
Two days earlier, the New Jersey product led all scorers and rebounders in an 80-68 road victory over Wagner. Haines, who grabbed 13 boards and blocked four shots, tallied eighteen of her game-high 22 points in the second half. The driving force behind Sacred Heart's 4-0 NEC start has averaged 19.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per league game.
