SOMERSET, N.J.- Graduate student Katherine Haines was named Northeast Conference Player of the Week this afternoon. Haines had her way at MAAC member Manhattan. Powering the Pioneers to a 74-46 runaway road win in Riverdale, the senior center turned in a well-rounded effort highlighted by her second double-double of the season.
Shooting 67 percent from the field, Haines tallied a game-high 19 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. The 6-foot-2 post player accounted for a 3-for-3 clip from the field over the game's first 4:59, scoring seven points as Sacred Heart built a 12-4 advantage during that span. Haines, who hit her lone three-point shot attempt of the contest in the first quarter, also recorded a traditional three-point play that bumped SHU's lead to 17 points - the largest of the game at the time - with 7:20 remaining in the second quarter. Haines also recorded a double-double in a win over New Hampshire on November 18 before missing the next three games due to injury.
The Pioneers return to action on Thursday when SHU hosts Saint Joseph's. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and can be viewed on NEC Front Row.
