  • Erin Storck Named to Google Cloud Academic All-District 1 First Team

    Sacred Heart women’s basketball graduate student Erin Storck was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 1 Women’s Basketball First Team, as announced by the organization on Thursday, February 21, 2018. Storck wins her first career CoSIDA Academic All-District honor and becomes the first player in program history to earn the distinctive academic honor. The announcement makes Storck immediately eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, which will be voted on by the CoSIDA membership and announced in March.

    Despite a game-high 25 points from Katherine Haines, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team suffered a 69-64 loss to LIU Brooklyn on Monday afternoon from the Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn. The Pioneers fall to 13-11 overall and 9-4 in the Northeast Conference while the Blackbirds move to 3-21 on the season and 2-11 in the NEC.

    After cruising past Bryant on Saturday, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team heads to Brooklyn for a Monday afternoon President’s Day showdown against LIU Brooklyn with tip-off set for 1:00 PM. Of significance in this matchup is the game will be held at The Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn, home to the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets and NHL’s New York Islanders.
  • Allyson Murphy Nets Career-High, Leading Women’s Basketball Past Bryant, 67-57

    Behind a career-high 15 points from Allyson Murphy, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team scored a 67-57 road win over Bryant on Saturday afternoon from the Chace Athletic Center. Coupled with a 49-48 home victory over the Bulldogs back on Jan. 14, the Pioneers sweep the season series against Bryant for just the second time in the last six seasons.

    Leading by 18 with 7:19 remaining and in complete control, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team saw their lead cut to three but were able to hold off a gutsy performance from Fairleigh Dickinson in a 68-62 win from the Pitt Center on Monday night. Owning a 58-40 advantage in the fourth quarter, FDU staged a 19-4 run to cut the gap to just three with 1:52 remaining but a pair of timely buckets from Candice Leatherwood and Katherine Haines helped ice the game away late for the Pioneers.

    If asked to write a perfect game script, one would be hard pressed to better the outing put forth by the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team on Saturday. Playing in front of a season-high crowd on the team’s annual Pack the Pitt, the Pioneers drained a season-high 13 three-pointers and held Mount St. Mary’s to just 28.6 percent shooting on the way to a dominating 76-41 victory.

    An extra session was needed in what turned out to be a thrilling Saturday afternoon NEC contest but the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team couldn’t get the basket to fall when they needed it most and fell to the visiting St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, 56-53, from the Pitt Center. The Pioneers drop their third straight and first NEC contest at home this season, falling to 10-10 overall (6-3 NEC) while the Terriers pick up a crucial win to move to 12-9 overall (6-3 NEC).

    The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team is back at home for a three-game NEC homestand starting with Saturday’s 1 PM PINK game against Saint Francis Brooklyn.     In a battle of the NEC’s top two scoring defenses, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team fell victim to a suffocating defensive showing from Robert Morris in a 64-46 loss from the North Athletic Complex on Monday night. Sacred Heart drops their second straight and now stand 10-9 on the season and 6-2 in NEC play. Robert Morris continues to dominate in league play, moving to 8-0 in the NEC and two games clear of the field that includes the Pioneers who remain in sole possession of second place.

    The Sacred Heart women’s basketball team saw its six-game win streak snapped on Saturday with an 85-68 loss at Saint Francis U and looks to salvage a split of its Western PA trek on Monday night with a primetime showdown at Robert Morris. Despite Saturday’s loss, a win on Monday over the Colonials would vault the Pioneers back into first place in the league standings as each team would stand 7-1 in the NEC but Sacred Heart would own the tiebreaker with a victory.

    Falling victim to a hot-shooting St. Francis U squad, the Sacred Heart women’s basketball team dropped an 85-68 decision on the road to the Red Flash on Saturday afternoon from DeGol Arena. The Pioneers see their six-game win streak come to an end as SHU drops to 10-8 overall and 6-1 in the NEC while SFU snaps a three-game losing streak to move to 7-12 overall and 4-3 in conference.

The last time these two teams met in the regular season in Loretto, the Pioneers scored a thrilling 69-68 upset win over the Red Flash, becoming one of just two teams to defeat SFU in their home gym all last season.

    After a record-breaking week, graduate student Katherine Haines earned her second consecutive Northeast Conference Player of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office this afternoon. The honor comes on the heels of Haines posting the first triple-double in program history and becoming the 20th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points.

The win ups Sacred Heart’s win streak to six as the Pioneers remain unbeaten in NEC play at 6-0 and hit double digits in the win column, moving their record to 10-7 overall. Wagner drops to 5-12 overall and 3-3 in the NEC with the loss.

    BROOKLYN, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University Women's Basketball team earned its fifth Northeast Conference victory on Saturday as the Pioneers prevailed in the final seconds over St. Francis Brooklyn by a final score of 68-66. The Pioneers return to action Monday, January 21 when SHU takes on Wagner at home. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. Graduate student Katherine Haines led the Pioneers, tallying the program’s first triple-double as she registered 25 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high 11 blocks. Haines’ 11 blocks tied the program-record and set the program-record for most blocks in program-history in the Div. I era.
