SHU Beats LIU Brooklyn, 63-43; Pioneers Clinch Tourney Berth

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team (12-16, 8-9 NEC) beat visiting LIU Brooklyn (10-17, 6-10 NEC), 63-43, Monday evening at the Pitt Center. The win clinches a tourney berth for the Pioneers.

How it happened…

The game was tightly contested through the first three quarters with SHU edging the foe for the vast majority. The Blackbirds did open up a three-point lead at the 6:44 mark of the third quarter, their largest all game, but paled in comparison to the Pioneers' 22-point advantage at the fourth quarter's 1:30 mark prior to the host resting on a 20-point margin of victory. 

The numbers…

Tykera Carter led SHU with 18 points going 5-of-12 from the field. The senior hit four three grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and handed out an assist on the evening.

Erin Storck totaled 17 points also on 5-of-12 shooting while tallying five threes and dishing three assists.

Katherine Haines contributed 12 points off the bench and came up with six rebounds and a pair of assists.


  • The Pioneers outrebounded LIU Brooklyn, 34-31.
  • SHU benefitted 19 points off of the Blackbirds' 15 turnovers. LIU Brooklyn tallied 10 points off of 12 SHU turnovers.
