Haines Named MBWA Honorable Mention for the Week

MBWA Official Release

NEW YORK, NY –  Redshirt-junior forward Katherine Haines has been named Honorable Mention for the Week by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association in women's division I as announced by the committee Tuesday afternoon.

The designations, for games played Dec. 11-17, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

Haines joined elite company pulling down a career-high 21 rebounds in a Sunday setback to Siena. The redshirt-junior's dominance on the backboard dubbed her eighth-best and fourth-most in the Pioneers' record books under single-game rebounding performances. Additionally, she has garnered the most rebounds in a single contest of any student-athlete in the NEC this season.

The forward secured her 15th career double-double through the first half of play registering 11 points and 12 boards prior to the intermission. Her 21 rebounds are five boards shy of a production not yet done at Sacred Heart. Haines snagged five on the Pioneers' glass, recorded 13 points and two blocks in 31 minutes in Loudonville, NY.

The week six NEC Prime Performer tied her one-game production with Robin Jeffress who notched her tally against Springfield on February 14, 1980. Haines is the first player to generate 20 or more rebounds since Hannah Kimmel corralled 23 at Saint Francis U on January 17, 2015. Haines, Kimmel and Jasmine Walker (20, vs. Rider 12/29/05) are the only student-athletes to achieve this feat in the 2000s era. Jeffress owns the Sacred Heart record with 25 seen against Quinnipiac on February 19, 1980.

The forward is averaging a double-double consisting of 13.3 points and 11.6 rebounds. Her rebounding stat is a team-best.

Sacred Heart hits the Pitt hardwood tomorrow with New Hampshire, Wednesday, December 20 for an Ugly Sweater Game. Tip is slated for noon.
