Men’s Cross Country Races to Fifth Place Finish at Ted Owen Invitational

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's cross country team raced to a fifth place finish on Saturday morning at the Ted Owen Invitational at Stanley Quarter Park. Host Central Connecticut took the team title with 51 points, followed by NJIT (65), Bryant (67), Assumption (81) and Sacred Heart (106). Fairfield and Fairleigh Dickinson rounded out the field of seven teams.

  • Three Pioneers finished in the top 30 overall of the 8K race, including Dane Krchnavy in 11th place overall (27:48.8), followed by Moetiz Shilleh (28:11.3) in 15th overall and Christopher Gillis, who set a new personal record time of 28:43.0 in 29th place.
  • Joshua Hadity (28:56.6) and Corey Picard (28:58.8) finished back-to-back in 32nd and 33rd, respectively, to round out SHU's top five.
  • Gavin Thurlow finished 36th overall and sixth on the team with a time of 29:02.7, and Scott Curtis crossed the finish line in 29:09.3 to complete the team's top seven.
  • Other Sacred Heart finishers included Sean Murray (38th/29:10.0), Nicholas Pandolfo (42nd/29:19.9) and Ryan Corbett (43rd/29:24.4).

Next up, the Pioneers will race at the New England Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday, Oct. 6.
