FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sophomore wrestler Conan Schuster was named an Academic All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association on Friday.
Schuster was 18-12 on the mat this past season, becoming the Pioneers' first wrestler to place in the top-six at the EIWA Championships. The sophomore placed sixth in the 174-pound weight class, defeating the previous year's runner-up in the process. A team captain as well as a finance and economics , Schuster also earned the David A. Cameron Excellence Award.
"I'm so proud of Conan," said head coach Andy Lausier. "He represents the core values of SHU Wrestling to the highest standard. He matched a great season on the mat with phenomenal work in the classroom. This is a well-deserved honor for Conan, as he's an incredibly disciplined worker."
Schuster is one of 28 wrestlers to be named Academic All-American out of 118 student-athletes that were put on the NWCA All-Academic Team.
