TROY, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart wrestling team went 0-3 Saturday at the Journeyman/Asics Northeast Duals at Hudson Valley Community College. The Pioneers lost to Buffalo 32-12, 32-13 to Hofstra, and 40-3 to Northern Illinois.
Three Pioneers won two matches Saturday. Sophomore Elliott Antler (Hebron, Conn.) went 2-1 on the day, earning a major decision victory against Hofstra and Sacred Heart's lone win against NIU. Johnny Vrasidas (Smithtown, N.Y.) also was 2-1 on the day with wins over Hofstra and Buffalo. Conan Schuster (Westminster, Md.) had a pin against Buffalo and earned a key reversal in the second period to win his match against Hofstra 8-7. Sophomore heavyweight Daniel Hayden (East Islip, N.Y.) won his match against Buffalo 4-2.
"Three duals against really tough competition was a great experience for our team", said head coach Andy Lausier. "It was nice to have Schuster back in the lineup, he wrestled well. After a slow start, Antler had a good day. Vrasidas really scrapped hard. He is making great progress and starting to find his identity on the mat."
The Pioneers return to the mat on Friday, Dec. 12 for a 5 p.m. dual at Princeton.
