Men's Volleyball Downs Charleston (W.V.) 3-1

FAIRFIELD, CT–– The Sacred Heart men's volleyball team defeated Charleston West Virginia 3-1 at home in the Pitt Center on Friday night. The win improves the Pioneers' overall record to 4-16 and 2-11 in the EIVA.

Red-shirt Senior Emerson Waumans led the Pioneers with 14 kills and a .379 kill percentage. Senior Noah Richetti handed out 30 assists in the win.

The Pioneers finish their season at the Pitt Center on Saturday April 13 at 6pm when they host Charleston West Virginia again.

First Set: Charleston 25, SHU 21

  • The two teams found themselves tied early on at 3-3

  • With more back-and-forth play, the Pioneers and the Golden Eagles were again tied at 7-7 and again at 10-10

  • Attack errors from the Pioneers gave the Golden Eagles a 16-13 lead

  • Two kills from Chatterton brought the set back to a tie at 18-18

  • But, the Pioneers couldn't keep the momentum going and the Golden Eagles won the set, 25-21

Second Set: SHU 25, Charleston 22

  • The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 7-4 lead

  • Back-to-back kills extended the Golden Eagles' lead, 13-9

  • A 3-0 run gave the Pioneers their first lead of the game, 17-16

  • Strong play from both sides had the set tied late, 20-20

  • A 4-0 push secured the Pioneers win, 25-22

Third Set: SHU 25, Charleston 17

  • Using the momentum from last set, the Pioneers had an early 3-0 lead

  • A 4-1 run extended the Pioneers' lead 11-6

  • Another 3-0 run gave the Pioneers a 20-11 lead

  • A kill from Tischler closed the set giving the Pioneers their second win

Fourth Set: SHU 25 , Charleston 17

  • Attack errors from the Golden Eagles gave the Pioneers a 9-3 lead

  • 4 consecutive kills, including back-to-back kills from Waumans, extended the Pioneers lead, 15-6

  • Sacred Heart held on to their led to secure a 3-1 win and close the set, 25-17
