Robert Bertucci Tabbed Men's Volleyball Head Coach

Sacred Heart University Executive Director of Athletics Bobby Valentine announced the hiring of Robert Bertucci as the Pioneers head men's volleyball coach.

"I am pleased to welcome Bob to the Pioneer family," said Valentine. "He is a proven collegiate coach that has compiled over 900 victories during the course of a career that spans four decades."

Bertucci comes to SHU after a seven-year stint as the head women's volleyball coach at Lehigh University. He was named the Patriot League Coach of the Year in 2014 and led the Mountain Hawks to six postseason appearances. All told, Bertucci coached eight All-Patriot League players and four conference Liberoes of the Year.

Prior to his move to Bethlehem, Bertucci spent 16 seasons as the head coach of the women's volleyball program at Temple University. He led the Owls to four NCAA Tournaments, including a Sweet Sixteen berth in 2002; the deepest run in program history. Bertucci coached student-athletes were twice named All-America, three times Player of the Year in the Atlantic 10 and 25 earned All-Conference accolades. He was also named the A10 Coach of the Year on three occasions; 1997, 1999 and 2002.

Bertucci began his coaching career at Rutgers University in Newark, N.J., where he served as the head men's and women's volleyball coach for seven seasons. He led the men's squad to an NCAA Final Four appearance in 1990, which was one of six NCAA Eastern Regional Championship appearances. At Rutgers, Bertucci produced six All-America honorees and 26 All-Conference selections.

Bertucci has also been active at the national and international level of volleyball. He served on the USA Women's National Team coaching staff for seven years and coached at the Women's World University Games twice. Bertucci runs a volleyball camp that can be found in nine states and 21 cities and is an AVCA and USA Volleyball Coaching Clinician.
