The Sacred Heart men's volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions on the opening day of the Coker Tournament, in Hartsville, S.C. The Pioneers fell to Lees-McRae College and Erskine College on Friday and will play the host Cobras and Pfeiffer University on Saturday.
In the opening match, versus Lees-McRae, Enzo Mackenzie, Sean Nelson and Raymond Satagaj all had seven kills. The Pioneers led the first set 21-18, but the Bobcats rallied with three straight points to knot the set at 21-21. The set was tied 23-23 and 24-24, before the Bobcats scored the final two points for the win. Lees-McRae captured the second two sets, 25-20, and 25-23, to earn the win.
The match with Erskine was a tight one, with all three sets decided by only two points. Mackenzie hit .522 in the match, with 14 kills and eight digs. Satagaj, Jason Kinney and Travis Vonhold all had five kills for Sacred Heart, which hit .202 for the night.
Sacred Heart is now 5-10 on the year.
