SOMERSET, N.J. – Sacred Heart freshman Cameron Croce was named the Northeast Conference Co-Most Outstanding Rookie as well as a First Team All-NEC selection in the hammer throw, as officially announced by the league office. In addition, SHU saw Christian Turner earn All-NEC First Team laurels while Michael Kearns was named to the All-NEC Second Team.
Croce made history with his school record hammer throw toss of 57.50m at the 2019 NEC Outdoor Championships, earning him first place, the Most Outstanding Rookie honor and the All-NEC First Team nod. A momentum occasion for the rookie, Croce bested his personal-best heading into the meet of 54.60m by nearly three full meters. For his achievement, Croce was also named to the All-Rookie Team in the hammer throw.
Turner completes his fantastic season with another All-NEC First Team nod, his second such honor of the 2018-19 season as he picked up his first career All-Conference selection in the indoor campaign. Turner picked up the gold medal in the shot put at the NEC Championships with a throw of 16.92m. The victory sealed a clean sweep for Turner as he won both the indoor and outdoor NEC shot put titles.
Kearns shined in the shot put as the senior finished his career with an All-NEC Second Team award. His shot put throw of 15.91m was good enough for second place, behind Turner's gold medal throw in the event. This marks the first career All-NEC nod for Kearns.
