Staten Island, NY.- The Sacred Heart men's track & field team kicked off the 2018 season competing at the Wagner Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Friday, January 5.
Trevor Guerrera made his season debut in the mile, taking 3rd in the event. The senior crossed in an IC4A and New England qualifying time of 4:10.93, which now moves the 2017 NEC mile champion into 1st in conference rankings.
Michael Kearns took 5th in the men's shot put, with a New England qualifying mark of 51'2 ft. (15.55m). The senior currently ranks 1st in the event in the NEC by more than 3 feet, with his season best mark from the Yale Season Opener (52'2.75", 15.92m).
Sebastian Pierre ran a new season best in the 500 meters. The senior came through the line in 1:06.36, which earned him 4th place overall and also moves him into 4th in NEC rankings.
Rookie Sean Mefford took 3rd in the long jump with a new season best, measuring in at 21'11 ft. (6.68m). The freshman moves himself into 7th in conference standings.
Quaheem Dufane ran his 2nd fastest time in the finals of the 60 meter dash, as he crossed the line in a New England qualifying performance of 7.00 seconds. The time was good for 5th place.
The Pioneers are back in action Friday Jan. 12 at Harvard University Multi-Events (Pentathlon & Heptathlon) @ Gordon Track, Boston, MA at 11 am.
