New Haven, Conn.- Seiji Hosokawa and Cory Seltman had a 8-6 win on day one at the ITA Regionals over St. Francis PA this weekend, surviving two bricks of serve. In the first round of singles Hosokawa managed to win against Jeff Zucker from UPenn 6-1, 6-4. Jeff Zucker is a five-star recruit with a 12.5 UTR. "This was a significant win and I believe will give Seiji a lot of confidence going into the spring season," said Head Coach Boe-Wiegaard.
In the second round of doubles SHU faced stiff competition against one of the seeded doubles teams from Dartmouth, with Cory Seltman playing some solid doubles.
In the second round singles Hosokowa faced Harvard's number two singles player who has a UTR 13.5 and fell with a respectable 6-3, 6-3 score line and had many opportunities throughout the match.
The Pioneers are back in action Friday Nov. 3. at the CT State Invitational at Yale.
