BROOKLYN, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University Men's Soccer fell to LIU Brooklyn in a tough overtime loss by a final score of 3-2. The team returns to action on Sunday Oct. 21 when the team hosts Bryant. Game-time is set for 3:00 p.m.
LIU Brooklyn would be the first team to get on the board as Marius Koss would find the back of the net off an assist by Filip Nordstrom to put the Blackbirds ahead 1-0. SHU would outshoot the Blackbirds in the first half by a total of eight shots to four.
The second half would start with a pair of shots by Thomas Santilli and Segundo Navarro but both shots would either be high or blocked keeping the game 1-0 in favor of LIU at 51:44. Then at 71:22 SHU would get on the board courtesy of a goal by Zander Hyltoft as he launched the shot from midfield over the goalies head to tie the game up at 1-1. Then less than a minute later Hyltoft would score his second goal of the game at 72:11 this time off an assist by Segundo Navarro to put the Pioneers ahead 2-1. But LIU would fire back as Fredrik Mathisen would score a goal at 79:45 to tie the game up 2-2 off an assist by Huib Achterkamp.
Neither team would be able to score another goal in regulation sending the game into overtime. At 94:49 LIU would score the game winning goal courtesy of Mathisen off a rebound to end the game with the final score of 3-2.
