Francolini Pushes Sacred Heart to OT Victory at Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team improved to 4-0 on the season after pulling off a 2-1 overtime victory at Adelphi, Saturday evening.  Sophomore forward Brian Francolini (Ellington, Conn.) notched his first goal of the season in the 96th minute to give the Pioneers the victory.  The loss evened the Panthers record at 2-2 for the year.

Sophomore defender Marcello Castro (Panana, Brazil) got SHU on the board first with his third goal of the season, in the 32nd minute.  The goal came on a free kick that Castro struck under the Adelphi wall and into the back of the net.

The game was very physical from start to finish.  In the 34th minute, a scuffle broke out between the two teams, that was instantly mediated by the referee.  Adelphi sophomore midfielder Domenico Parreli was the only player booked with a yellow card for the incident.

The Panthers answered before the end of the half when senior midfielder Alexander Kouznetsov scored on a free kick to tie the game at one, three minutes before the break.

Junior goalkeeper Alex Fait (Ottawa, Ont.) made six saves, while giving up one goal, to earn the victory for Sacred Heart.  In net for AU, senior keeper Thorner Holde stopped two shots in the loss.

Adelphi held a 15-10 advantage in shots for the game and 8-1 in corner kicks.

The Pioneers return to action when they head to Providence for a 7:00 pm contest.
