CAA Announces Preseason Lax Poll; Pioneers Picked 6th

RICHMOND, Va. (January 26, 2006) - Towson University, which has claimed the past three CAA men's lacrosse championships, is favored to win the title again in 2006 according to a vote of the league's seven head coaches. The Pioneers were picked to finish sixth in the six team league.

The Tigers, who are ranked #11 nationally in Inside Lacrosse /Face-Off Magazine's preseason Top 20, received five first-place votes and 35 total points in the poll. Delaware, which is ranked #16 nationally by Inside Lacrosse, picked up one first place vote and was second in the poll with 31 points, while Hofstra, which is ranked #16 by Lacrosse Magazine, also got a first-place vote and was chosen third with 27 points. Villanova was fourth in the voting, followed by Drexel, Sacred Heart and CAA newcomer Robert Morris.

The Pioneers return both of their all-league players in seniors Matt Robideau (Massena, NY) and Kiel Adams (Rome, NY). Both were the top scorers a year ago, cominbing for 41 goals and 23 assists. Also returning is a pair of CAA All-Rookie team picks in sophomore Tony Tanzi (Mahopac, NY) and Billy Fuchs (Merrick, NY). Fuchs had 14 goals and five assists last year while Tanzi finished with nine scores and five helpers as well as 28 ground balls.

The CAA Men's Lacrosse Championship will begin on May 3 with semifinal action, with the winners advancing to the title contest on May 6.
