Men's Ice Hockey Starts 2004-05 Season at Vermont Tonight

FAIRFIELD, CT - The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team will face off against the University of Vermont in the 2004-05 season opener Friday night in Burlington, VT. The game will be broadcast live on

The Pioneers return 20 lettermen from last season, including leading scorer and team captain Garrett Larson. Also back is last season's Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Year, Pierre-Luc O'Brien.

The defense will be led by junior Bernie Chmiel, who led all defensemen with 21 points a season ago. Senior Kevin LaPointe will again see the bulk of the time between the pipes for the Pioneers this season.

The Catamounts are a perennial ECAC powerhouse and will be leaving the ECAC for Hockey East after this season. Vermont already has a game under its belt, losing a 7-1 decision to #3 Maine on Sunday.
