Sept. 28, 2004

WALTHAM, MA (September 28) - The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team was predicted to finish second, behind only Mercyhurst, in the Atlantic Hockey Coaches' Poll held during Atlantic Hockey Media day hosted by Bentley, in Waltham, MA.

The Pioneers received one first place vote, and a total of 71 points to place themselves behind pre-season favorites Mercyhurst, who collected six first-place votes and 85 points overall.

Defending champions Holy Cross and Quinnipiac also received one first-place vote apiece in a third place tie with 69 points. Connecticut, Canisius, Bentley, Army and AIC round out the poll.

The Pioneers return 20 lettermen from a team that finished 12-8-4 in conference while advancing in the Atlantic Hockey tournament all the way to the finals. The Pioneers drop the puck on the season when they open up on the road to take on ECAC opponents Vermont on October 8. Game time is 7:00 PM
