FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team was selected third in the 2019-20 Atlantic Hockey Preseason Coaches' Poll on Tuesday. This is the highest preseason poll ranking the Pioneers have received since the 2006-07 season when they were picked to finish second.

SHU finished its sixth straight season with double-digit wins last season, finishing with a 16-17-4 overall record while recording a 15-13-3 conference record while propelled them to the Atlantic Hockey Quarterfinals. The Pioneers return 22 student-athletes from a season ago. Sophomore Austin Magera is SHU's top returning point scorer from last year. The forward recorded 27 points and finished first on the team with 14 goals. 11 returning players registered double-digit points in 2018-19.

The 2018-19 Atlantic Hockey Champions American International was selected to finish first with 100 points and 10 first place votes. Niagara was picked second with 78 points while Bentley and SHU were both selected to place third each tallying 77 points.
