BRIDGEPORT, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University Men's Ice Hockey team fell 2-1 in overtime to Robert Morris this afternoon to conclude the weekend series. The Pioneers will return to action on Friday, December 7 when the team travels to RIT for a two-game set.
For the second straight day the first period would go unscored as the defenses on both sides would hold strong allowing a combine 15 shots total in the first. Robert Morris tallied nine while SHU was only able to attempt six.
The second period would a stronger offensive push especially by the Pioneers. SHU would fire off a total of 13 shots in the period while holding the Colonials offense to just five. Just a minute into the second period, sophomore Jordan Kaplan would find the back of the net off a pair of assists by Liam Clare and Austin Mcllmurray to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0 at 1:04 while SHU was on the powerplay. The strong defense by should would hold over for the remainder of the period as the second period would close with SHU still in the lead.
A slow start to the third period would result in no scoring for 15 minutes before Alex Tonge would be able to net the game tying goal at 15:50 to make the score 1-1 that would last for the remainder of the period.
In overtime it would be at 2:43 would Michael Louria of the Colonials would net the game winner to split the weekend series and to give Robert Morris the eventual 2-1 victory.
