FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey junior Brett Magnus earned his second Travel Team USA Atlantic Hockey Goalie of The Week honors of the season after earning back-to-back wins between the pipes.
The junior netminder helped the Pioneers to back-to-back Atlantic Hockey wins for the first time this season, making 75 saves and boasting a 1.50 goals against average in 120 minutes of play.
Magnus opened the week with a 40 save performance as SHU's 4-2 win over Bentley on Tuesday night earned the season series sweep. The save total was his second highest of the season after turning away 41 shots versus UConn back in October. A showing that earned him his first weekly honor of the season.
He continued his strong play into Friday night as the Pioneers earned the 2-1 victory over Air Force at Cadet Ice Arena. After a first period goal by the Falcons, Magnus made 30 saves the rest of the way to give SHU its second straight win in Colorado Springs. He recorded 17 out of his 35 saves in the final period of play to earn his 30th career victory.
The Pioneers are idle this week and will open February with a weekend series against Robert Morris at Webster Bank Arena. The series starts Friday, February 2 at 10:35 a.m. for Kids Day. School groups interested in attending call the SHU Ticket Office at 203-396-TIXX.
