UNIONDALE, N.Y.— The Sacred Heart men's hockey team led the Army West Point Black Knights 3-2 heading into the third period Saturday night at NYCB Live, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, but a power play goal halfway through the third period ensured a point for both teams as the game ended in a 3-3 tie.

SHU scored two goals in the second period to take a 3-2 lead heading into the third period. Marc Johnstone set up Zach Tsekos for the first goal at 4:16 of the period. Johnstone then put the Pioneers in front at 7:38, as Hunter Fargey threw a cross-ice pass to him as he came out of the penalty box. SHU controlled much of the third period, but the Black Knights got a power play goal at 10:10 from Michael Wilson to tie the game 3-3. SHU held Army West Point to one shot on goal in overtime, but Jared Dempsey stopped all four Pioneer shots to ensure a point for each team.

10:27 – 1st Period: SHU 1, Army West Point 0: The Pioneers got the scoring started halfway through the first period. The Black Knights attempted to clear out the puck, but Clare was there to keep the puck in the zone. He dished the puck to Bavaro who fired one from the left circle.
12:43 – 1st Period: SHU 1, Army West Point 1: The Black Knights tied the game on the power play, as Dominic Franco slammed home the rebound of a Michael Wilson shot.
13:48 – 1st Period: Army West Point 2, SHU 1: Zach Evancho scored on the power play, sniping a shot from the circle with an assist from Conor Andrle.
4:16 – 2nd Period: SHU 2, Army West Point 2: The Pioneers worked the puck early in the period, as Johnstone picked the puck along the Army West Point zone. He found Tsekos open just outside the right circle to tie the game.
7:58 – 2nd Period: SHU 3, Army West Point 2: Fresh off the penalty kill, Fargey tapered a pass from the half wall to Johnstone as he charged out of the box. The rookie had daylight with the Black Knights' defense behind him, beating Dempsey blocker side to put SHU ahead.
10:10 – 3rd Period: Army West Point 3, SHU 3: On the power play, Franco wheeled the puck from the left side to Alex Wilkinson. Wilson deflected the puck in to tie the game.
