Clare Earns Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week Honors

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Sacred Heart men's ice hockey junior defenseman Liam Clare was named Travel Team USA Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week after a four-assist weekend against Holy Cross.

This is Clare's second career Defensive Player of the Week honor after earning the honor as a sophomore a season ago. The co-captain opened the first game back from break with the primary assist on Vito Bavaro's third period power play goal as SHU fell to the Crusaders 4-1.

His strong passing continued on Saturday night at the Hart Center as he assisted on the Pioneers first three scores in the five-goal second period. That marked Clare's first career playmaker as both teams settled for a point with a 5-5 tie. The junior also blocked four shots for SHU, second on the team over the weekend.

The Pioneers will travel to NYCB Live, home of Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum this Saturday, January 6 against Army West Point. Tickets for the 7:05 p.m. contest can be purchased by calling the SHU Box Office at 203-396-TIXX (8499).
