Men's Hockey Closes Fall Semester Against Yale At Webster Bank Arena

Setting the Scene... The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team holds its final non-conference game of the season against instate foe Yale. SHU closes out the fall semester with the Saturday night matinee at Webster Bank Arena. 

Toy Drive... Any fan that donates a new unwrapped toy for the WTNH Toy Drive will receive a voucher for two free tickets to a future game at WBA.  Those who donate will be entered to win an Amazon Echo at the game.

SHU Students Enjoy A Study Break... Study Break will provide free food for SHU students and contests during Saturday's game. Also free parking for SHU students is now available for the remainder of the 2017-18 season men's hockey season at Webster Bank Arena with proof of student ID. Students get get their voucher for Saturday's game at the Pitt Center today & Friday from 11am-4pm and Saturday afternoon at the basketball doubleheader. 

Last Time Out... SHU earned its second Atlantic Hockey win of the season with a 5-3 victory in the series finale against Mercyhurst. The Pioneers were led by two-goal game from Jason Cotton. Vito Bavaro, Jordan Kaplan & Kory Kennedy also scored for SHU. Matt Tugnutt & Ruslan Rakhmatov registered multi-assist outings. Brett Magnus turned away 25 shots in the win.

Last Meeting... Last season Yale skated to a 4-1 win over the Pioneers at Ingalls Rink on October 29, 2016. SHU struck first with a goal by Jeff Carroll at 4:24 in the opening period. The Bulldogs proceeded to put up four unanswered goals, including three in the first to take its home opener. The Pioneers went 0-for-9 on the power play while Yale was 1-for-7 on the man advantage. Nathan Perry registered 30 saves in his first start of the 2016-17 season.

All-Time Series... The Bulldogs have won four out of the five meetings between both teams. SHU's lone win in the series came back on November 22, 2011 with a 7-6 victory over the eighth ranked Bulldogs at Webster Bank Arena.

Scouting The Bulldogs... Yale comes into the matchup 4-7 overall & 4-6 in the ECAC which is tied for fifth place in the league. The Bulldogs ended a five game losing streak last Saturday with a 5-3 win over Union. Joe Snively leads the team with 10 points on five goals and five assists. Sam Tucker has started 10 games for the Bulldogs and owns a 2.92 goals against average. 

Pios Balanced Offense Leading The Way... Over the last eight seasons, SHU has averaged just over three skaters contributing 10 or more points through the first semester of play. Through the opening 16 games this season the Pioneers have seven skaters (Four sophomores, two freshmen & one junior) reach the 10 point mark.

First to Light The Lamp Twice... Heading into the weekend SHU's offensive attack jumped out to a 2-0 lead in three consecutive games. The Pioneers have gone up 2-0 in the series finale against Air Force & in both of it's two-game set at Mercyhurst. The end result has not gone in SHU's favor, coming away with a 1-2 record in those three games. The Pioneers look to capitalize on early chances against the Bulldogs, who give up three goals per game.
