FAIRFIELD, Conn.-- Sacred Heart men's hockey junior goaltender Brett Magnus was named Travel Team USA Atlantic Hockey Goalie of the Week on Tuesday after making 44 saves in the Pioneers 3-1 victory over in-state rival UConn.
Magnus was sensational between the pipes for the Pioneers in the home opener at Webster Bank Arena. The junior picked up his third career win over the Huskies. He stopped all shots 14 shots in the opening period, 14 in the second and then 16 in the final period. Magnus stopped several shots as the Huskies worked a six-on-three opportunity in the final minutes. It is his second career Atlantic Hockey Goalie of the Week honor. It was the second game in his career with over 40 saves and first since he set the single game record of 64 saves against Penn State on November 14, 2015.
The Pioneers travel to Notre Dame for a two-game series beginning on Thursday, October 19 at 7:35 p.m.
