FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart men's ice hockey team was selected 10th in the 2017-18 Atlantic Hockey Preseason Coaches Poll on Tuesday.
SHU finished its fourth straight seasons with double-digit wins last season, finishing 13-19-5. The Pioneers return 18 student-athletes from a season ago. Junior captain Liam Clare is SHU's top returning point scorer from last year. The defenseman recorded 22 points and finished second on the team with 21 assists. Five returning players registered double-digit points in 2016-17.
The 2016-17 Atlantic Hockey Champions Air Force were selected to finish first with 97 points and eight first place votes. Robert Morris was picked second with 87 points and two first place votes. Army and RIT rounded out the top four of the league. Followed by Canisius, Holy Cross, Mercyhurst, Bentley. AIC was picked to finish ninth, seven points ahead of SHU. Niagara closed out the bottom of the poll.
